I Remember…..Baraboo I remember the cling, cling, cling of the Circus Trolley as it shouted the history of the Ringling Bros; the ghost of Grandma Ringling passing by an upstairs window of the peeling yellow-painted mansion. I remember the sting of sun-kissed skin after hours of bathing in chlorine; the euphoric pride that comes after pushing your muscles to their limits while swimming your team to victory. I remember the roar of the engine, the quickening of the heart, the flipping of the stomach as the boat churned through the waves of the Wisconsin River; the tightened muscles and bruised ribs from bouncing in a water tube. I remember the chorus of shouting voices during a kickball tournament in “the field,” boys against girls, sisters against sisters, neighbors against neighbors; a community of skinned knees and muddy cheeks fighting to rule the block if only for a weekend. In yesterday's TedTalk, How to see past your own perspectives and find truth, Lynch said "But in practice, we do agree on all sorts of facts. We agree that bullets can kill people. We agree that you can't flap your arms and fly. We agree -- or we should -- that there is an external reality and ignoring it can get you hurt." Today we will discuss our thoughts about this topic and this idea through our Tug of Truth routine.
